Daniel Igirimbabazi
PhD Soil Science (Balster Lab)
Research Assistant
Daniel is a second-year PhD student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, originally from Rwanda. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s in water resources management. His research focuses on how changes in winter snow variability influence forest soil—specifically, how variations in snow cover and freeze-thaw cycles affect soil structure and microbial communities in northern and southern Wisconsin. He also examines how forest type and soil origin interact under these conditions to better understand the resilience of forest soils in a changing climate.
