Mitch is a PhD student in the Department of Soil and Environmental Sciences at UW–Madison, co-advised by Xia Zhu-Barker and Chaoqun (Crystal) Lu. He joined the program in 2024 as an MS student in the Zhu-Barker lab and recently completed his MS in Soil Science; he holds a BS in Plant Biology from the University of Michigan (2020). As a soil biogeochemist, his research develops best management practices for efficient fertilizer use in dairy cropping systems, with particular attention to how manure management influences nutrient availability and greenhouse gas emissions. Outside of science, he enjoys backpacking, cooking, and exercising.
