Daniel is a PhD candidate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He holds a bachelor’s degree in conservation biology from the University of Rwanda and a master’s degree in water resources management from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research examines how climate-driven changes in winter snow cover and freeze-thaw cycles affect forest soils. He focuses on soil aggregate stability and microbial community function in Spodosols and Alfisols, Wisconsin’s two most abundant soil orders. He also investigates how forest type influences soil responses to freeze-thaw dynamics, particularly when forests grow on their typical versus atypical soil types. His work aims to improve our understanding of winter climate impacts on forest soil health and resilience under a changing climate.
