Department Name Change
Back in 2017, our faculty voted to change the department name to Soil and Environmental Sciences. Nearly 7 years later, the University Academic Planning Council (UAPC) voted unanimously in support of that change, and our new department name will officially go into effect in July 2024. The UAPC also unanimously approved the suspension of the Soil Science BS major, while approving the Certificate in Environmental Soil Science. The department will continue to offer its Environmental Science BS and the Soil Science MS and PhD degrees in addition to the newly approved undergraduate Certificate in Environmental Soil Science. Students will be able to declare the Soil Science major until Spring of 2025. All current students in the Soil Science major can finish their degree. We will be working with CALS on an implementation plan for the certificate shortly, and students can declare for that certificate this fall.
